I was at a restaurant this weekend, with David, when our young, (gay?) waiter guy kept looking at me and smiling, A LOT. This was more than the average waiter/restaurant patron exchange and it weirded me out. After I paid the bill he smiled and said, “Thank you, Ms. Vaziri!” Yeah, I know my name was on my credit card, but do waiters ever do this? It had never happed to me before. And he pronounced it correctly, not that my last name is at all difficult, just say it as you read it. Still most people manage to put the letters out of order or add in mystery letters in the pronunciation.
My first thought was that omg, he must read my blog. I don’t know that for sure, but it increased feelings of creepedoutedness.
No matter how many page views and visitors I have to my blog according to Google Analytics, I still don’t think of them as real people. Every time someone new, like at work, or MY DAD, tells me they read my blog, I just laugh nervously. “Oh! ha ha ha, cool!”.
In less than two weeks it will be my blog’s first year birthday. Will I feel less overexposed with more time?

There is a department store in Australia where all the staff use your surname when paying with a credit card. Freaky huh?

I’m with you, I totally feel like the blog world is separate from the real world…even though some of my real-world friends read and comment on my blog.
And I also have a ridiculously complicated last name…but it does help weed out the telemarketers, haha.

Hahaha, Adam, I don’t even like getting David a drink from our kitchen. I’d be the worst waitress in the world. “You want me to get you ANOTHER drink already??!! Uggghhhhhh fiiiiinnnne!” Thank god I’ve never worked in food service.

Ok, I really don’t think that goes away. At first i was like… ooooh cool! Then I found out my CRAZY ASS mother in law reads it, just to see what is going on (even though she lives 15 miles from me and calls me eVERy DAY!) I kind of know what celebs must feel like, being hounded every day by ramdom people, thinking they know you. Ok, I am no Angelina, but it still freaks me out sometimes!

I had to close my original blog after almost a year because it wasn’t anonymous. Well, it was more specifically for “other” reasons but I refuse to slate an ex…Now, with my All Mod Cons persona, I feel a little more liberated.
Mind you, I’d feel pretty sweet if I went into a restaurant and someone said “Hey, there’s All Mod Cons!”. Actually, it’d rock my world! Dammit, need to get more of a life!

I’m the same way. About MY DAD and other readers. It’s hard to imagine some random person on the other side of the country sitting in front of their computer reading all your personal thoughts. You’re right – doesn’t seem like they’re real people. Just abstract page views.

I wouldn’t mind someone random reading my blog, but I don’t really want people I KNOW reading it. The only person who knows my blog address is my boyfriend, and possibly one of my former flatmates as I used her pc to access my blog when my computer was virus-ridden last week.
It’s weird that I don’t mind sharing every little detail with people I don’t know at all, but I don’t want the people who DO know me to know anything about me. . .

OMG- similar story…
We have a lot of unusual authors that publish through my company and I had my company information posted on myspace not thinking it was a big deal…
One day I see in my myspace inbox a message from “the postman” some alias or pen name of an author. And the only thing in the email was an image of their book cover posted in the body of the message. No words or anything. I was def. creeeeped out and now my profile is private. Its strange not knowing whose looking at your cyber life…
