ugh. i know the feeling. when i got off of the elevator on the same floor as another attorney he looked at me like i was getting off at the wrong place. when i punched in the door code i think he was utterly baffled. hello thanks, i’ve worked here for almost a year. and yes, we’ve been introduced before.

Whoa, that is really weird! I don’t think your haircut is to blame, though. I mean, it’s just a haircut, it’s not like you had plastic surgery or anything. I think maybe your co-workers are just dumb.

You could look at it as a positive that people at least seem to be friendly in your workplace. Still, I can certaianly understand that it’s frustrating when you’ve been there for ages and no one recognises you. Can a haircut REALLY make that much of a difference???

Creative directors, account directors, and VP’s are usually the worst offenders. I guess they feel that they are at a high enough level that they don’t need to know the masses. Only the people directly below them on the chain. This happens more than you think at large agencies. Egos get big and they forget to talk to the people who actually make their jobs easier. :)

People are often times used to the casually normal. For something as truly drastic as cutting your hair, it can come as a shock to their senses… to their memory anyway. People build habits, not just in their lives but in their minds. They associate people with various bodily anomalies.

I don’t know if I would ever go as far as re-introducing myself, but a second chance at a first impression couldn’t be bad.

Ugh. I’ve been on that end where people say they didn’t recognize me with my short hair, or glasses, or whatever. Turns out people really are as easily fooled as they are in the movies with Clark Kent and Superman.

I once had hair down my waist, then cut it to a pixie cut. I got the same reactions. You’re not alone in feeling that way.

You were craving a change, and you got one, with just a haircut. That’s cheap.
